The Aurora Stone is my first novel, it is something I never thought I would do. I have always had an overactive imagination. As a child my dad would ban me from watching some TV shows as I would have vivid dreams for weeks after.
The conception of the The Aurora Stone was in actual fact a reaccruing dream. It drove me crazy for weeks! I remember talking to my friend and fellow author Beverley Hollowed about it and she said I should take notes see if it could be a story. She had been saying for months how I had a book in me and that I should try to write. So that is what I did every night I woke up with the dream I would write notes in my phone and read them the next day. After about a week I could imagine the story and decided to try and write it.
It took me a year from start to finish to write the book. I had just had my second son, so publishing was far from my mind as was the money to afford the edits etc that you incur on the road to publication. So it sat in on my hard drive , waiting for the day it would be read by others.
Fast forward to May 2016
We had relocated from Scotland the year before and were finally settled. I decided to read through my book. Beverley offered to give it a rough edit and format it , which was wonderful. She then put in my touch with her editor, Sally Orchard and she completed the final edit. lastly my sister and a really good friend of mine both completed final proofs on it . It was then time for publication.
It has to be one of the most exciting yet utterly terrifying things I have ever done.
The book has been well received by those who have read it so far with an average 5 star rating on Amazon and a 4.5 star rating on good reads. The joy for me is that people are enjoying the story. That is all I wanted from this .
Set in the fictional realm of Orea, the protagonist of the story is a young female elf by the name of Evangeline or Eve for short. The story opens on the morning of Eve’s 18th birthday. A special day in the Elvish culture, a day that sees Eve attending a coming of age ceremony, which will bestow upon her an extra ability unique to her.
Little does she know, that the ceremony will mark the start of a life changing series of events and along with a revelation from her mother, Eve is set on the path of adventure. As the story unfolds we follow Eve as she travels through the five realms of Orea, battling foes, making new friends and acquiring companions along the way.
With a host of supernatural beings to encounter and vast lands to discover, the story progresses at a fast pace. This pace is maintained throughout the book and gets into the action very early on.
The authors vocabulary is diverse and extensive, the use of which keeps the narrative interesting and engaging without the need for a dictionary.
I laughed, I cried and at times I wanted to run and hide.
A fast paced and well-structured piece of work, I have read it 3 times already and look forward to seeing what else this author has in store in her future works.
